Philip says: ‘In writing the story of the mechanisation of the army in WW2, I found incredible stories of ordinary people caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and then enduring terrible suffering in captivity. Some of those stories and many others are in this account of what some 250,000 people did in supplying the army to help win the war. In meeting refugees on Lesvos and in reading other accounts, their plight is is just the same as that suffered in WW2. For this reason I am happy to donate books to this great project.’

Philip Hamlyn Williams. historian and biographer, found the story of War on Wheels in some albums his mother had kept of his father’s war. He was awarded an MA in Professional Writing at Falmouth University in 2009. He writes more generally on the plight of refugees in his blog http://lesbosphilandmaggie.blogspot.co.uk/. This is his ‘third career’ having previously been a partner in Price Waterhouse and then holding a number of management positions in the charity sector.
