Lydia is offering either: manuscript critique for first three chapters and synopsis/5,000 words of a YA or adult novel, analysing plot, voice, pace, characterisation, dialogue and setting. NB historical fiction is my speciality. Or: critique of complete submission package for an adult narrative non-fiction book or memoir, including chapter outline, sample chapter, biography etc – up to 5,000 words total. This can be bought as a present, and work emailed/posted to me anytime up to December 31st 2017. Lydia Syson’s debut novel for teenagers, A World Between Us, was a Guardian Teen Bookclub choice, Highly Commended for the Branford Boase Award, shortlisted for the We Read Award, longlisted for The Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize, Waterstone’s prize and UKLA Award (2014) and nominated for Carnegie Medal.  Her second novel for Hot Key Books, That Burning Summer was an Independent book of the year in 2013, and her most recent book, Liberty’s Fire, was also Carnegie-nominated.  Read reviews of all these and also Doctor of Love: Dr James Graham and His Celestial Bed (Alma Books, 2008) – a biography of Britain’s first sex therapist – here:] A former BBC World Service radio producer, Lydia has since written a PhD about Timbuktu in the cultural imagination and also collaborated closely with the jeweller Alex Monroe on his memoir, Two Turtle Doves (Bloomsbury, 2014).  She has taught City University’s short novel-writing course and is currently Royal Literary Fund Writing Fellow at The Courtauld Institute of Art.
