John Ironmonger is a novelist and zoologist. His debut novel ‘The Notable Brain of Maximilian Ponder’ was shortlisted for the Costa First Book Award. His second novel, ‘The Coincidence Authority’ was a World Book Night book of the month, a Waterstone’s Book Club choice, and winner of the Reader’s Prize (Prix de Lecteurs) at the European Literature Festival in 2015. Not Forgetting the Whale is his third novel. John Ironmonger once drove a £100 banger across the Sahara Desert for charity, and is one of the only living people to have seen a Javan Rhino. He is very smug about this.
